Product overview
A compact identity for repeat use.
A discount card keeps the entitlement, expiry and identifier together during repeated use. A compact format fits a wallet but limits readable terms. A protected face resists some handling wear, while a separate uncoated zone may be needed for handwriting. Names and membership numbers should follow the issuer’s validation workflow rather than being treated as decorative artwork.

Membership information
Name, program and offer details distinguish the card's role at the point of use.
Readable identifiers
Barcodes, QR codes or serials connect the printed piece to a validation process.
Writing zones
A separate signature or note area can serve a different purpose from the protected printed face.
Specifications & materials
Choose the Material and Validation Details
Start with card width × height in mm and corner shape. Then compare the material and construction choices below.
Use these options to prepare your specification. Material grades, weights, thicknesses and feasible dimensions are confirmed for the quoted construction. A paper weight is not a finished thickness or a strength rating.
| Parameter | Options or Information to Supply | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Finished dimensions | Wallet-format example: 86 × 54 mm; A6: 105 × 148 mm | Reference formats or explicitly labeled design examples. Select by the use cases below; custom trim and final construction belong in the quotation. |
| Format and component count | Single cards; any carriers listed separately | Count complete sets separately from individual cards; reconcile card IDs, front/back pairing, instructions and pack contents. |
| Stock | Coated card or writable uncoated card; 250 / 300 / 350 g/m² coated supplier examples | GSM is mass per area, not caliper. Review opacity, finished stack, writing response and handling on the cut sample. |
| Program data | Membership ID, name, expiry or barcode as required | Confirm which fields change and test codes in the intended validation system. |
| Writing area | Uncoated or specifically tested signature strip if needed | Test the actual pen after all finishing steps. |
| Finish | Protective coating or lamination compatible with the data areas | Avoid glare or finish that obstructs scanning or handwriting. |

Compare materials and construction
Choose around the intended use. These are alternatives to discuss, subject to the confirmed specification.
Paperboard card
- Suitable for
- Short-term printed promotions or membership identification.
- Check before selection
- Test wear around the code and name areas in the intended use.
Quoted protected surface
- Suitable for
- A finish intended to alter handling resistance.
- Check before selection
- Verify writing or scanning compatibility rather than assuming lamination preserves every function.
Surface finish options
Printed fronts; writable backs or panels
Keep message, signature and stamp areas free of added film or coating. Place foil on non-writing artwork only and test the chosen pen on the actual stock. Relief and film are not defaults for writable areas.

Keep Signatures and Codes Functional After Finishing
Focus the review on identifier readability, signature performance and the finished card fit.

01 / SELECTION CHECK
Verify identifiers in the real workflow
Approve record counts, uniqueness and code format, then test printed examples where they will be used. A scan on an unrelated device cannot establish compatibility with the program's validation process.
02 / SELECTION CHECK
Keep writing areas functional
Compare signature or note zones with the actual pen and proposed finish. A protective coating can change writing behavior, so do not extend it over the writable area without an agreed trial.
Offer-card & redemption planning
Make the offer terms and redemption conditions as clear as the discount
Discount cards need fast recognition and unambiguous conditions. Confirm how the offer is redeemed, who can use it, where it applies and which dates or codes control eligibility before proof approval.
Compare dimensions and usable space
Published reference formats and labeled design examples, with their selection notes.
Wallet-format example · 86 × 54 mm
Compact wallet-format design example; prioritize benefit, expiry and the validation identifier.
Read every format’s selection note
- Wallet-format example: 86 × 54 mm. Compact wallet-format design example; prioritize benefit, expiry and the validation identifier.
- A6: 105 × 148 mm. A larger entitlement card provides more readable conditions but occupies more storage space.

Select the material by its finished behavior
Choose card stock for repeated handling and readable validation details. Protection changes surface feel and pen response, so keep an appropriate uncoated writing field where signatures or dates are added. The actual card and issuer workflow determine suitability; material names do not establish access or security.
Production checks that prevent avoidable rework
Keep conditions beside the claim
Make minimum spend, exclusions, validity dates and participating locations readable near the offer. Check required legal language with the campaign owner.
Validate any unique code or barcode
Provide a test data set and expected scan result. Confirm code length, orientation and clear space with the redemption system before the production file is locked.
Choose finish around real handling
If cards are carried in wallets or handled at point of sale, inspect a sample for scuffing, glare, writing and scan performance.
Use-case selection
Choose a configuration for the job it has to do
One-time retail offer
Use a clear expiration and redemption instruction, plus a unique code if the system requires it.
Trade-off: Short validity windows increase the risk of obsolete inventory.
Loyalty program
Prioritize member identification, repeat-use instructions and a card format compatible with the existing wallet or scanner.
Trade-off: Personal data or account credentials should not be exposed in the print file.
Event promotion
Use a campaign-specific code or QR route and identify the applicable event or venue.
Trade-off: Codes need a live destination and a post-event update plan.

Resolve the failure points before production
Handwritten details smear
Why it happens: Film or coating covers the field intended for ink.
How to prevent it: Leave a suitable writing area and test the exact pen or stamp on a converted sample, including normal handling after drying.
The set or pack does not fit
Why it happens: Packaging was sized from one flat card or nominal GSM.
How to prevent it: Measure the complete finished stack after cutting and surface treatment; include dividers or carriers in the fit sample.
Alternative formats
When another construction is a better fit
| Alternative | Structural difference | Selection trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Coupon | A single-use offer or detachable redemption piece. | More suitable for one-off promotions; does not offer the same repeated-use credential. |
Sampling & production
Choose a Sample That Answers Your Main Concern
A structural sample, a print proof and a finished sample answer different questions. Confirm the sample scope before approval. Free samples are prepared within 15 days; courier arrangements and transit time are separate.
Structure and material sample
Review stock and program data with the proposed dimensions and component count. Agree whether the sample uses production materials or substitutes. An unprinted construction sample does not approve printed color.
Print and artwork proof
Review representative artwork at finished size on the agreed proof condition. Check program data. A screen proof cannot establish physical feel or the performance of the finished assembly.
Complete finished sample
Assess identifier readability, signature performance and the finished card fit with the specified components and finishing present. Record the approved revision and any differences to resolve before production.
How to Order Discount Card
Send your project brief
Send card width × height in mm and corner shape. Specify single cards; any carriers listed separately. State the number of cards per program, design and data batch, delivery destination and required arrival date. Tell us which options are undecided.
Compare the quotation
Ask for pricing by cards per program, design and data batch. Compare the same configuration at each quantity. The quotation should identify materials, finishing, sample scope, packing and freight, plus payment and order terms.
Review the right sample
Choose a sample that can demonstrate identifier readability, signature performance and the finished card fit. Confirm what the free sample includes and any differences from the intended production specification. Preparation is completed within 15 days; courier arrangements and transit time are separate.
Approve the production version
Confirm the specification, file revision and sample decisions in writing. Production scheduling follows the agreed approvals and order release conditions; changes may require a revised quote or schedule.
Confirm packing and delivery
Keep member batches and design revisions distinct. Protect writable and printed surfaces and agree traceable bundle counts for the issuer's distribution. Agree the destination and shipping arrangement, with production, dispatch and transit dates listed separately.
Details to Confirm in the Quotation
- Order unit and price breaks
- Specify cards per program, design and data batch. Request the feasible minimum and quantity breaks for that exact configuration; a change of material, version or component count can change the price.
- Sample scope and delivery
- State whether you need a material trial, a print proof or a complete finished sample. Free samples are available, with preparation completed within 15 days. Confirm the included materials and processes; courier arrangements and transit time are separate.
- Approval and schedule
- State the required arrival date and whether versions ship together or to separate destinations. The quote must distinguish sample work, production and transit; a requested date is not a confirmed schedule.
- Packing and identification
- Keep member batches and design revisions distinct. Protect writable and printed surfaces and agree traceable bundle counts for the issuer's distribution.
- 01
Supply controlled member or serial data with its printed-field mapping. Identify expiry, version, scan zones and any signature area separately from decorative finish masks.
- 02
Use the PDF/X export preset and output condition confirmed with prepress. Embed fonts and identify the approved file revision.
- 03
Check continuous-tone images at about 300 effective pixels per inch (ppi) at their final placed size. Fine linework can require a different resolution or vector artwork.
- 04
Extend trim artwork by 3 mm unless the approved template specifies otherwise. Keep structural, folding and binding clearances separate from trim bleed.
- 05
Identify named spot colors or physical references and the intended substrate. Agree proof acceptance and keep finishing separations distinct. A screen PDF does not approve printed color.
Engineering & purchasing FAQ
Questions Before Ordering Discount Card
Does a printed QR code validate membership automatically?
No. It can carry an identifier or destination, but validity comes from the buyer's system and rules. Provide the required format and test representative printed records in that process.
Can the entire card be coated if users must sign it?
The signature area's performance must be checked separately. Test the intended pen on the proposed surface and specify a compatible zone; protection and writing are different functions.
What should be supplied for personalized cards?
Provide the approved data fields, layout and record count, plus a method for matching records to proofs. Name the person or team responsible for checking spelling and program details.
Which sample should I request first?
Start with the uncertainty that could change the specification: identifier readability, signature performance and the finished card fit. If the concern is physical, request the relevant material or functional sample. If it is print appearance, agree a suitable proof. Confirm the sample scope before approval. Free sample preparation is completed within 15 days; courier arrangements and transit time are separate.
How should I state quantities for a quote?
Use cards per program, design and data batch. Separate versions and give a delivery destination and required arrival date. This lets the quote distinguish the production quantity, packing and shipping scope.
